=============================================
As you may remember, in June residents of Shaw won a historic guarantee from Deputy Mayor Neil Albert that the Fenty Administration would provide a $7.8 million subsidy to build dozens of new, permanently affordable rental units in the neighborhood.
That pledge is now in jeopardy.
Since June residents have met with potential development partners to discuss a shared vision for the "Parcel 42" site at 7th St & R St NW.
Only one team has been willing to meet the exhaustively researched needs of primarily low-income, longtime residents of Shaw.
"Parcel 42 Partners" - made up of 3 experienced development companies - have met frequently with ONE DC community leaders to develop a family-friendly proposal for the site. They are competing with other teams that are NOT offering anywhere near the same level of affordability for families or community amenities.
The ball is now in the Deputy Mayor's court.
There is a chance that he will choose a cheaper proposal that does NOT utilize the full $7.8 million subsidy and provides LESS affordable units.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor need to hear from you!
Please take a minute to send a letter to Mayor Fenty and Deputy Mayor Albert urging them to respect the needs of ONE DC members who have advocated tirelessly for this project for several years.
