Janey Kinney ,head of government relations for Glaxo-SmithKline(GSK), received a 45 minute protest at her home 4825 Quebec(st?), near American University on Halloween. This is because GSK continues to do business with Huntingdon Life Sciences, a contract vivisector that tortures 500 animals to death every day.
Two neighbors out trick-or-treating joined in, adding their whistles to the noisy event. All the street lights were out, and one end of the street blocked by trucks from the work crews trying to repair them. It was so dark that after the bike light illuminating the signs was turned off it must have felt like Janey's house was under seige by goblins!
Although a hostile neighbor claimed Janey was on a 2-week vacation, we could see someone moving around inside and two jack-o lanterns were out on the doorstep. Lies about homes being sold and people moving out or being on vacation are common at home demos.
GSK has problems that go far beyond the HLS connection. Their unsafe drugs have been killing people, and their aggressive patent lobbying may have killed millions in Africa and other less wealthy parts of the world. There are probably as many reasons to protest GSK as there are people killed by their unsafe drugs, their patent lobbyists, and sky-high domestic prices on prescription drugs.
